Whether you have past experience of silicone moulds and polyurethane casting resin or are a complete newcomer to these exciting materials, the Xencast® Resin Casting Starter Kit is a brilliant way to get everything you need in one great value package.
Using the materials in this kit, you can take just about any original part or pattern, including RPG figures, sculptures, figurines, scenario models or product prototypes and then perfectly duplicate them. Firstly by creating a flexible silicone mould and then casting durable and perfectly detailed resin copies.
The resin included in the kit is our easy-to-use Xencast® P2 'fast-cast' polyurethane resin which will flow easily into the fine surface details of the silicone mould and then cure quickly (within 30 mins) to a strong white plastic copy of the original part.
The number of uses for the Resin Casting Starter Kit are almost limitless. Some of our customers use the kit to make a whole army of modified RPG characters, whilst others use the process to reproduce replacements for plastic parts that are no longer available. Designers can use the process as part of their rapid prototyping work, whilst artists can easily make copies of their original work as samples or demonstration pieces. The kit is absolutely perfect for quickly creating tough, durable and inexpensive copies of 3D printed parts.

Xencast Starter Kit Instruction Manual(1.4Mb)
Basic Instructions:
Included in the resin casting kit is everything necessary to first create a silicone mould and then make plastic (polyurethane resin) castings of the original parts. No additional equipment or supplies are required.
Full details are included with the PDF guide but for simple mouldings the process can be summarised as follows (more complex shapes will require slightly different techniques):
1. Make a box around your original (master)
Use the fluted signboard (included in the kit) to build a simple box that snugly contains your original part.
2. Mix and pour the silicone rubber
Mix a quantity of silicone rubber to fill the cavity around the original part. You can estimate how much you'll need using dry rice.
Pour the liquid rubber over the original part. Silicone won't stick to the original part so you don't need any release agent.
3. Allow the silicone to cure
The CS25 condensation cure RTV silicone included in the kit will take about 12hrs to cure at room temperature and average humidity.
4. Remove the original part from the silicone mould
Once the silicone has fully cured the resulting flexible rubber block (containing the original part) can now be removed from the set-up box.
Depending on the shape and complexity of the part it may be possible to simply stretch the mould slightly and pull the original part from the mould. Other shapes will require that the mould is gently cut open to remove the part.
5. Mix and pour the casting resin
Mix enough Xencast® P2 fast cast polyurethane casting resin to fill the new mould - if necessary you can estimate this by measuring dry rice into the mould first. The Xencast® P2 silicone mould resin included in the kit uses a convenient 1 to 1 mix ratio.
Carefully pour the mixed resin into the lowest part of the silicone mould. Continue pouring into the same place and allow the resin to fill up the mould.
6. Allow to cure and then de-mould
The Xencast® P2 resin will cure and be ready to de-mould within around 30 mins. Once the resin feels fully hardened the new casting can be removed from the mould (separating two halves of the mould if necessary).
The mould can now be used to create many castings in a single day!
Colour Pigments and Metallic Effect Cold Castings
Use our Tinting Pigments to colour the casting resin any of 10 different pastel shades or for a more vibrant colours use our range of polyurethane solid colour pigments.
Realistic metallic castings can be created using a combination of different metal powders and pigments.

The P2 Fast-Cast resin included in this starter kit is an opaque off-white colour. For a waterclear casting resin for thicker sections, we would recommend our Water Clear Polyurethane Casting Resin.
Yes, very much so. Casting small figures, like soldiers, or any parts or accessories for them is exactly the sort of thing that our resin casting starter kit can be used for. The CS25 silicone in the kit is easy to use, without the need for any specialist equipment, and the Xencast P2 casting resin is also easy to use and fast curing allowing you to quickly make lots of duplicate/replacement figures or accessories. You won't need a release agent when making the silicone mould in the first place and then you won't need one when you cast the new peices themselves so everything you need is in the kit, ready to go.
The volume of silicone is approximately 1 Litre. The actual size of the mould produced and the volume of the cast such a mould can produce depends on shape of the mould, thickness of the mould walls, amount of recessed detail and other variables.
The volume of resin produced from the kit is approximately 2 litres.
Yes this kit would be ideal for a project like that. You could make a few different moulds for shape and size of pebbles then cast the various pebbles using the Xencast P2 Fast-Cast.
In most cases, cast PU and other similar resin parts will only need a sandpaper key and a thorough clean prior to painting. Most modern paints work well on plastic surfaces. However in some rare cases or with some specialist paints, you may well need to use a plastics primer to ensure good adhesion. We would recommend reading your paint suppliers technical documentation or if unsure doing a small test before the main painting process.
I recently purchased this kit and it has been great. It has everything needed to create moulds and multiple castings!
