PLASTCLAY Reusable Modelling Clay 1kg White

PLASTCLAY is a low cost reusable modelling clay in a natural white colour, suitable for filling and filleting composites/fibreglass mould-making. This type of clay is often used, in conjunction with a filleting ball, to create a temporary smooth radius on the inside corners of patterns before taking a mould off the pattern. The clay is reusable and resins don't stick to it.

PLASTCLAY Reusable Modelling clay offers a simple way to produce mould flanges around parts and when used with a filleting tool, produce a radius fillet in corners. Also useful for blanking holes in parts prior to making a mould and even offers a crude repair to mould damage.

This modelling clay will not soften or dissolve when in contact with any of the common resin/gel-coat systems. The modelling clay is off-white in colour and some colour variation can occur between batches.

Tip: You can microwave the clay or place it somewhere warm to soften it quickly when in cooler working environments.

Can’t find the answer you’re looking for?Ask our technical team a question.

Although Plasticine is quite firm at room temperature, it is still not rigid enough to use as a mould material in most situations. Any gelcoat applied to it would be liable to cracking if the mould flexed when the reinforcement was being added. For a quick and easy moulding method we would recommend our Epoxy Mould Making Starter Kit which contains a tooling gelcoat as well as a special Epoxy Mould Making Putty which is quick and easy to use for mould making.

This specific plasticine is Sulphur free consisting of waxes, oils and a chalk filler.

Certainly the filleting is fine but any movement would cause the plasticine to break from an edge and it then leak so often it is better to seal first then use the plasticine for creating a neat fillet.

Unfortunately not.  Plasticine melts at above 50C although its heat distortion temperature is more like 30C meaning it just get softer and softer the warmer it gets. Above 30C it will begin to sag and distort.

Yes you can however make sure the surface is properly smooth so nothing can soak into any open pores.
Plasticine is not like ceramic clays and as such does not harden under heat.  In fact the opposite occurs and the plasticine softens and eventually melts and breaks down.
Plasticine is fine, it will not permanently stick so can be easily scraped and washed off once the resin has cured.
The Plasticine can be removed from the mould surface easily by first removing most of the material using a plastic scraper, the remaining Plasticine can be cleaned with a cloth using either mould cleaner, alcohol or methylated spirit.
