We decided as a development exercise to produce a random item that would be quite funny and unique in carbon fibre. We chose a Little Tikes, Cozy Coupe which at the end of the build, we would auction off for a children’s charity. It is a young kids foot powered car and they have quite a cult following these days.
This build included Easy Composites Carbon fibre chopped tow to create a forged carbon effect. We used the XCR basecoat for adhesion and the XCR Epoxy Coating Resin to set the carbon. For the top section we layered gold leaf with resin to give a yellow/gold finish.
For the curing process we used the OV301 Composites Curing Oven for an initial cure before then lacquering the parts in both a clear and tinted finish to replicate the red and yellow. Some of the other custom parts used cured sheet carbon that was milled with our logo and we also used a gold carbon fabric from another company, along with your XCR products.
For the front and rear axles, we used your woven finish carbon fibre tubes to cover the metal threaded bar and both widened and lower the width including adding some other custom touches.
Carbonwurks was founded by Daniel McKenzie back in 2009. He used to race professionally in Formula 3 & Formula 2 as well as with both Aston Martin and Ferrari in various GT championships.
While racing and being subjected to some monstrous crashes, for the most part escaping completely unscathed, the fascination with carbon fibre began. Since then, he started Carbonwurks with an aim to produce and sell high quality carbon fibre parts for road cars and undertake repairs, create bespoke parts as well as offering performance tuning facilities.
Some near 15 years later, we offer a range of services in house and with this in house production we have been using Easy Composites components since day 1 of offering in house production (around 2015). Our now head fabricator started his experience off when we sent him on one of Easy Composites Training Courses back in 2016. Our products are proudly Made in Britain accredited and we have a small but talented workforce who produce some great parts.
